Our Story

Hannah Cleaton-Roberts founded Peckham Cloth to bring together her love of beautiful cloth and her desire to create household products for people who want to live more sustainably.

SUSTAINABLE

Sustainably sourced
and made

All our products are handmade in the UK using ethically sourced raw materials. Our cotton is made from GOTS certified organic thread which is woven on household power looms in Kerala.

Organic cotton has so many benefits over conventional cotton. It is grown in healthier soil. Instead of degrading the soil with fossil fuel based fertilisers and fungicides, organic cotton farmers use traditional techniques such as crop rotation and natural fertilisation, which results in soil that stores nutrients, water and carbon. Farmers are able to save their seeds from the prior year harvest and are not exposed to damaging pesticides. Crop diversity and rotation reduces food insecurity for the farmers, and biodiversity is benefited and pollinating insects are allowed to flourish. Chemical run off into the water supplies from fabric processing is massively reduced and the fabric itself is not laced with harmful chemicals.

Added to that, it just feels so lovely.

Sustainably packaged

Part of our purpose is to reduce plastic use in the home, and so we strive to eliminate plastic in our business wherever we can. All our packaging is made from recycled materials if possible, and is fully recyclable in normal paper recycling.  We seek to minimise waste, so we glue on our postage labels with potato based glue so that we don’t have to throw away that non-recyclable non-stick backing stuff that adhesive labels come on.  We use jute twine to tie up our parcels.

Trees

We love trees.  We know that planting trees alone won’t save the planet but it helps. We plant a tree with OneTreePlanted for every product we sell.

To date have been focusing our planting in Indonesia, which is home to magnificent rainforests, carbon-rich peatlands, and diverse wildlife like orangutans, proboscis monkeys, sun bears, and over 1,700 species of birds. OneTreePlanted’s planting is helping to restore a biodiversity hotspot that has experienced profound degradation due to palm oil plantation, peat fires, and extensive logging.
