Revitalising your Bread Bag

Over time and with use the beeswax in your Bread Bag will soften up and it will begin to look a bit tired. But with a bit of TLC you can return your bag to nearer its original state. Please note that this involves putting the Bread Bag in the oven to re-melt the wax. This requires caution, as beexwax is flammable, so take care and take appropriate precautions.

Here are the steps.

  1. First of all make sure your Bread Bag is clean. Shake out any crumbs, turn inside out and wash in cool soapy water. Leave to try completely, inside out.

  2. Once your Bread Bag is dry, turn it the right way round again.

  3. Turn on your oven to 140°C, (280°F), no fan.

  4. If you want your bag with the corners folded in, I find it easier to do this first. Push each of the bottom corners in about an inch and a half / 4cm towards the central seam so that you get a nice pleat down each side of the bag.

  5. Stuff your Bread Bag with a sheet of crumpled up greaseproof paper. This is to stop it sticking to itself when the wax melts. Sit it on another sheet of greaseproof paper on a baking tray. This is to stop it leaving melted wax on your oven or your baking tray.

  6. Put the Bread Bag, on the baking tray, into the preheated oven for ONE MINUTE. Take it out and leave it to cool for one minute. Then remove the baking sheet and, once it is cool enough to handle, reshape and if you like, refold. Voila!
